indonesia bali bomber Umar Patek 231x300 Pakistan to extradite Bali bomb suspect this monthA top anti-terrorism official says Pakistan will extradite a key suspect in the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people to Indonesia by the end of the month.

Indonesian national Umar Patek had a $1 million bounty on his head when he was captured in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad in January 25, four months before Osama bin Laden was killed there in a US commando attack.

The 41-year-old Patek allegedly built the bombs used in the suicide attacks on Bali nightclubs packed with foreign tourists. Many of the victims were Australians.

Anti-Terrorism Agency chief Ansyaad Mbai told the media on Wednesday that Patek would be returned to Indonesia before Aug. 30 to stand trial.

Two lawyers gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: Two brothers, both also lawyers, were killed in a firing of unidentified gunmen in the Musharraf Colony here on Saturday.

Following the incident, the lawyers protested and boycotted routine activities in the City Court.

According to details, two brothers Altaf Hussain and Nazeer Hussain were gunned down when unknown gunmen opened fire on their car in the Musharraf Colony, in the limits of the Maripur police station.

Police told the media that the slain brothers belonged to Chakwal and had been living in Karachi from last several years.

There was no enmity of them with anyone, told their brother.

Slain lawyer Altaf Hussain was a former member of the Karachi Bar Association.

The members of the Karachi Bar Association’s governing body protested and boycotted routine activities in the City Court and demanded quick action against the killers. TrendPK

Clinton to visit Pakistan next month

ISLAMABAD: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit Pakistan next month, TrendPK reported on Tuesday.

Clinton will lead the US delegation in next month’s Pak-US strategic dialogue.

Sources told the media that the US intends to send high profile officials to Pakistan for the visit. The dialogue between two countries is expected to strengthen ties and ease tension. TrendPK

FIA director summoned for non-compliance of Musharrafs arrest warrants

A special anti-terrorism court on Saturday summoned Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Wajid Zia for non-compliance of red warrants issued against former president Pervez Musharraf in Benazir Bhutto murder case.

The case was heard in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi. FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar told the media that former SHO Kashif Riaz, plaintiff in Benazir Bhutto murder case, was trying to flee the country and he had asked the Punjab government to allow him to go abroad. He said that the FIA would appeal to the government to put Riaz’s name in the Exit Control List.

Azhar said that previous report of the British High Commission about the compliance of red warrants of Musharraf was presented before the court. The case was adjourned till April 9.

Turkey: Passengers overpower hijacker on a Norway bound flight

Passengers aboard a Turkish Airlines flight from Oslo overpowered a would-be hijacker as theplane landed at Istanbul airport on Wednesday, fellow passengers told the media.

Police said the man was a Turk who had demanded that the plane return to Norway. His motive was unclear. The pilot notified emergency services at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport. Passengers were quickly taken off after landing and the man was arrested and the bomb found to be a fake. A man started to shout from the back of the plane. He was shouting for the crew to turn the plane back to Oslo. He covered his face with a shawl, one of the 59 passengers aboard said. Police said a passenger had been sitting on top of the hijacker when they entered the plane. Police identified the hijacker as Cuma Yasar. Private Norwegian television network TV2 quoted witness Salim Tahar as saying someone in the back of the plane had put on a mask and threatened to blow up the plane in the air. There were no reports of anyone being hurt in the incident.

Lahore: pillion riding banned from 1st Muharram

Pillion riding has been banned in Peshawar due to security concerns from 1st till 20th December while the same has been banned in Lahore from 1st Muharram till 10th Muharram, trendpk.Com reported on Wednesday.

Peshawar administration banned pillion riding due to security threats and concerns while a notification has also been issued in this regard. Wall-chalking, carrying of arms and tainted-window cars shave also been banned alongwith pillion riding. Those violating the law would be immediately sent to the jail.

On the other hand CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen met with Shiite scholars to discuss with them issues related with security during Muharram-ul-Haraam. The CCPO told the media that Rangers and Army personnel would be deployed in sensitive areas during the last four days of the first 10 days of Muharram. He also said that the security has been beefed up for Raiwand gathering.

CAA bans Russian planes flying from Pak. airports

ISLAMABAD: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has imposed a ban on all flights of Russian planes from Pakistan’s airports on Tuesday. The decision was made as a result of the Russian cargo plane crash near Dalmia, Karachi late Saturday night.

CAA sources told the media that instructions regarding the ban imposed on the flights of Russian planes have been sent to the administration of all main airports. All Russian planes will remain grounded at airports until new orders are issued. The staff of these planes is allowed to stay in Pakistan, if it wants.



According to international aviation rules, no plane will be stopped from landing in Pakistan, but take-off can be banned. Trend Pk

Police torture kills man in D.G. Khan

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A protest has been staged against the killing of a man during the police torture on Sunday in front of RPO office in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Bashir Hussain went missing on third day of Eid-ul-Azha and then his dead body was found from the river in the area. The relatives told the media that Bashir went with his cousin to participate in an invitation of friends in the area of Darahma police station, where police arrested and tortured him. Due to torture he died, they added.

Police registered the case of robbery against Bashir, which is said to be a fake case, according to their family.
