LOS ANGELES: Former “Tonight Show” host Conan O’Brien returned to television on Monday, more than nine months after he lost his coveted network job, and poked fun at his downsized gig on a cable channel.
His opening monologue, predictably, revolved around his unceremonious departure from the NBC role he had coveted for years and his arrival at TBS, whose lineup includes old sitcoms like “King of Queens” and “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
“Welcome to my new show. It’s called ‘Conan,’” the bearded 47-year-old comic told the audience at a Burbank soundstage around the corner from his old employer. “People ask me why I named the show ‘Conan.’ I did it so I’d be harder to replace.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama shared some words of wisdom on Saturday, saying there a few things in life harder to find and more important to keep than love.
“Well, love and a birth certificate,” Obama quipped at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, poking fun at those who question his place of birth. “I happen to know that my approval ratings are still very high in the country of my birth.” Obama was born in Hawaii, but birthers question whether he was born overseas.
Obama also jabbed Jay Leno, the comedian headlining the dinner. Obama dinged Leno as “the only person whose ratings fell more than mine.”
He said he was glad he spoke before the “The Tonight Show” host, “because we have all seen what happens when somebody takes the time slot after Leno.” Comic Conan O’Brien left NBC after his stint hosting “The Tonight Show” following Leno didn’t work out.
He took aim at his own administration too, cracking jokes about Vice President Joe Biden and his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

Contractually exiled from late night television until September, O’Brien has embraced the new medium, sharing inane personal details of his life, airing petty grievances and even posting a Twitpic of how many people it takes for him to compose each tweet.
Thirty minutes ago, O’Brien announced that he has taken his first follower:
I’ve decided to follow someone at random. She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change.
Killen, a Fowlerville, Michigan, resident who has the username LovelyButton, has already acquired 6,700 followers and become one of Twitter’s trending topics.
Furthering the insanity, her recent tweet calling Fowlerville resident Russell Bigos “an idiot” is making him a figure of scorn and sympathy. Killen’s fiance John Slowik Jr. posted on Facebook Jan. 12 that he was “about to woop bigos in nba2k10,” so this could be a videogame basketball rivalry gone terribly wrong. We’ll have to wait for the media to dig for answers, because I’m not making any calls on a Friday evening.

Update: Sarah Killen is friends on Facebook with Aaron Bleyaert, the former Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien blogger, so it’s possible that the selection wasn’t entirely random. This scandal could go all the way up to the top! What did Coco know and when did he know it?

Conan O’Brien said good-bye to “The Tonight Show” in a completely classy way, with funny guests, a very heartfelt speech about NBC, huge thanks for his fans and a performance of “Freebird.”
The “Freebird” performance came complete with Will Ferrell dressed as a Lynyrd Skynyrd wannabe, complete with pregnant hippie wife “Dawn” that he kept making out with. “Dawn” was in fact played by Ferrell’s real-life wife Viveca Paulin, a Swedish actress he married in August 2000.

Hilary Hahn Boyfriend, Violinist Hilary Hahn – a popular favorite in St. Louis for her appearances here with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and in recital, and (oh, yes) a two-time Grammy winner and Gramophone Magazine’s 2008 Artist of the Year – will be the musical guest on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” on Thursday, January 14th.
Hahn, 30, released her latest recording, “Bach: Violin and Voice,” featuring soprano Christine Schäfer and baritone Matthias Goerne, along with conductor Alexander Liebreich and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, on Deutsche Grammophon yesterday.
She writes, “I’ve spent many post-concert hours watching Conan O’Brien on late-night television. I’m thrilled to perform on his show this week. I can’t wait!”
Hahn will be one of the first classical music performers to appear on O’Brien’s watch. It’s to air at 10:35 Central Time.

“I really feel that the next recording project will probably certainly be rock ‘n’ roll and my traditional rock ‘n’ roll sounding vibe,” Fogerty tells Billboard.com. “That’s kind of what I do best, and that’s certainly what I’m known for, and as a kid that’s what I spent most of my time doing.”
Fogerty says he’s already working on new material more in the vein of 2007’s “Revival” and his other solo albums, adding that writing is part of the normal course of his days. “I play guitar everyday … about three hours. I’m always trying to get better,” he explains. “Having a guitar in your hands all the time triggers music. It triggers creativity and it helps me write songs. So at the appropriate time I’ll have enough songs to go in and make an album and you’ll hear from me again.”
And when might that be? “I better not say,” Fogerty notes with a laugh. “That’s like predicting the World Series or something. I’d rather not have that sort of pressure.”
Fans will be hearing plenty from him in the meantime, of course. Fogerty has just released a new DVD, “Comin’ Down the Road: The Concert at Royal Albert Hall,” and he kicks off a 12-date tour on November 12 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.
Fogerty will perform on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” on November 10, and he’s gearing up for his Saturday appearance on PBS’ “Live By Request,” which starts at 9 p.m. EST, with fans asking for songs and posing questions via Facebook, Twitter and other social media.
