Kareena, Bipasha on Stamp Duty evasion list

While star cricketers and larger than life celebrities are the adored idols of the public, they are also never far from the law. It is learnt that cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood celebs like Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan and Suneil Shetty feature in the Stamp Duty evasion list.

The reason for their names being featured on this list is thanks to the mega endorsement deals they have signed between the period of 2006 – 2009. Under article 5(H)(A) of the Bombay Stamp Act 1958, duty needs to be paid on signing any endorsement contract, this duty can either be paid by the company itself or the celebrity that is endorsing the product.

Punjab: Another 45 dengue patients reported
Surge in the number of dengue patients continued across the country as another 45 affectees have been brought to the hospitals in the last 24 hours in Punjab alone, Dunya News reported on Tuesday.
In the last 24 hours a staggering number of 183 patients have been tested positive for dengue fever, raising the total figure of dengue affected patients to a whopping 1,700.
Eleven more cases from cities other than Lahore have also been reported, pushing up the number of patients suffering from dengue fever to 1,359. Fumigation is underway across the country.
WB asks Pakistan to stop construction of flood-hit roads
The World Bank has asked Pakistan to put on hold the construction of flood-affected roads till the completion of damage estimate.
The meeting of Senates Standing Committee for Communication was presided over by Wali Muhammad Badeeni. Communication Ministry officials while giving briefing told that a report of the Wolrd Bank had estimated the total damage to roads at Rs 22 billion.
The WB has said that funds would not be provided before the completion of damage estimate. Communication Minister Arbab Alamgir has said that construction of Chakdara bridge will cost Rs 45 crore. He said that construction of the bridge would be started if Asian Development Bank didnt reply in a week.
Sindh health department confirms 63 more dengue patients

KARACHI: Sindh Health Department on Monday confirmed 63 more patients who tested positive for dengue in Karachi.
With this development, the total figure reaches 944 in the province while 1,879 patients with dengue symptoms were brought to different hospitals in the city.
Meanwhile, four more dengue patients have been admitted in Hyderabad. SAMAA
Cotton prices surge as international production decreases
Cotton prices stared increasing internationally after the news of lesser production than the total estimates. Per 40 kg price exceeded 8000 rupees in the New York cotton exchange.Local cotton prices also witnessed an increase after the international increase.Per 40 kg price of cotton went up by 100 rupees in the local markets to reach 7200 rupees in Punjab and 7300 in Sindh. A week ago, the international cotton prices were less than that of the local prices. However bullish trend was seen after the reports of reduced cotton production by American Agriculture Department.

Closure of 3 PEPCO plants adds 1400 MW to shortfall
LAHORE: Director General PEPCO Engineer Muhammad Khalid Saturday said that closure of three of the PEPCO’s power plants has contributed 1400 MW to the total shortfall of electricity in the country to 1400 MW.
He said that OGDCL has suspended gas supply to Och power plant having capacity to generate 500 MW electricity while combined generation of 900 MW has also suffered suspension at Chashma Nuclear Power Plant and HUBCO.
This has further contributed the power shortage by 1400 MW. However, the D Engineer Muhammad Khalid said the situation will improve by tomorrow.
Bomb kills NATO soldier in Afghanistan

KABUL: A Taliban-style bomb has killed another NATO soldier in Afghanistan, the military NATO said Friday.
The soldier, whose identity was not revealed, died after an attack with an improvised explosive device, or IED, in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, NATO”s International Security Assistance Force said.
The death brings to 342 the total number of foreign troops to die in Afghanistan so far this year, according to a tally. The total last year was 520.
