KSE: trade value declines by 6.5pc

At the last business weekend, a decrease of 6.5 percent was witnessed in the trade value in the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), Dunya News reported on Sunday.
According to a report by Invest Cap, the future trading value remained 920 million rupees after a decrease of 60.60 million rupees at the last weekend in the KSE which is 6.7 percent less than the last weeks trading.
Rate of spread on trading increased by 1.29 percent during the week whereas trading volume augmented by 19 percent to reach 550.20 million shares. 72 percent of the total investment in future agreements was done in PSO, MCB, ENGRO NML and OGDCL.

China trade ties unaffected by Nobel prize: Norway

SHANGHAI: Trade and economic ties between China and Norway remain strong, with ongoing negotiations between the two countries for a free trade agreement on track, Norway’s Fisheries Minister said on Friday.

“In trade, and seafood everything is fine. We have a very good relationship between China and Norway both in shipping and in seafood and in many other trade areas,” Lisbeth Berg-Hansen, told Reuters in an interview at the Shanghai World Expo.

Beijing has cancelled several official meetings with Norway after the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo. AGENCIES

Ajay Devgn fined Rs. 200 for smoking in public place in Goa

Earlier in the month of May this year, Ajay Devgn earned the wrath of director of health services, Dr Rajnanda Desai, for smoking in a public place in Goa. The actor was shooting then for his forthcoming film Golmaal 3 and was caught puffing away near the Inox cinema hall in Panaji. While the complaint against the actor was filed then by National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE), it’s only now that he has been asked to pay a penalty of Rs.200.

Ajay, through his representative, did pay the fine of Rs.200 earlier this week on Wednesday. The fine was levied for smoking in a public place which is in direct violation of section 4 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA).

Suicide bomber in gov”t HQ in west Iraq kills two

FALLUJA: A female suicide bomber blew herself up on Sunday in the governor”s compound of Iraq”s western Anbar province, killing two people and wounding seven, as U.S. Vice President Joe Biden visited Baghdad, police said.

A police source said the blast occurred in the reception area of the heavily fortified compound in Ramadi, 100 km (60 miles) west of the capital. Many of the wounded were in critical condition, he said.

The sprawling desert province was the heartland of a fierce insurgency after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion and was in the grip of al Qaeda. Its main cities, Ramadi and Falluja, witnessed some of the fiercest fighting of the war.

But local Sunni tribal chiefs turned on al Qaeda in 2006 and 2007, helping U.S. forces bring relative peace to the region.

Sectarian tensions have flared since a national election in March, which has yet to result in a new government.

A Sunni-backed alliance won a slim victory in the vote but a union of the main factions is expected to take the lead in the tussle to form a coalition government.

Insurgent groups have tried to exploit the political vacuum since the election through violence.

Al Qaeda”s Iraqi affiliate claimed responsibility for brazen suicide assaults on the Iraqi central bank and the Trade Bank of Iraq last month, and police in Anbar and elsewhere have come under constant attack.

On Friday, gunmen with silenced weapons shot dead one of Anbar”s most senior Sunni clerics, Imam Abdul Aleem al-Saadi, after he answered a knock on his door.

Sunday”s bomb blast in the Anbar governorate office occurred as Biden visited U.S. troops in Baghdad for the 4th of July holiday and also planned to meet Iraqi leaders.
