Obama Pays Emotional Arizona Tribute

Breaking News President Barack Obama has paid tribute at a memorial service in Arizona to the six people killed and 13 injured in Saturday’s shooting in Tucson. 
He said he could not fill the hole torn in US hearts, but urged the nation to honour the victims through unity. He said lawmaker Gabrielle Giffords, who was hurt in the attack, had opened her eyes for the first time that night.
Suspected gunman Jared Loughner has been charged with several offences and could face the death penalty if guilty. More than 14,000 people gathered for the service at the University of Arizona’s basketball arena, the McKale Memorial Center, in Tucson.
There is nothing I can say that will fill the sudden hole torn in your hearts, said Mr Obama. But at a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized – at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do – it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.

New doodle for Google. The most famous search engine has a space to honor, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the telescope Hubble.
The day will mark the twenty years for most fascinating Hubble telescope, the Hubble telescope flew into space aboard the shuttle Discovery, to be placed in orbit about 600 km altitude above the earth. Since that time, Hubble orbits the Earth; it makes a full circle every 100 minutes and sends a multitude of images to researchers of NASA and the European Space Agency.
Hubble was named in the tribute to famous astronomer Edwin Hubble.
During the period of 20 years, the telescope assisted in observing about 30,000 celestial objects and their file contains more than one million photographs.

at the Oscar’s. Many are saying that it was not tribute enough because it was too short. Hughes has contributed much to entertainment industry and he deserved to have a longer tribute at the Oscar’s. But actually the lenght of the tribute does not really matter, what matters is the tribute and that Hughes is recognized for what he has given to the industry.
New York, I Love You Movie Review
Those who remember Paris, je t’aime (2006) fondly are likely to thumb up this bite of the Big Apple. Others may be disappointed, though, with the hodgepodge of styles offered by the various eight-to-ten minute vignettes served by 10 directors.
The brief segments just don’t come together to make a common point. As disturbingly, native New Yorkers such as Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee are conspicuous by their absence in this tribute of sorts to Gothamville.
As it happens, the strongest episode comes from the French director Yvan Attal. It depicts the efforts of a smooth-talking author (the wonderful Ethan Hawke) to seduce an attractive Asian woman (Maggie Q.) on the sidewalk outside a restaurant.
In Mira Nair’s passable contribution, Natalie Portman is a Jewish bride-to-be who encounters a Jain diamond merchant (Irrfan Khan).
Working from a script by the late British director, Anthony Minghella, Shekhar Kapur overdoes a story about a retired diva (Julie Christie). Much too pretentious, this.
The most poignant episode features an aged couple (nonagenarians Cloris Leachman-Eli Wallach) who step out for a walk to Brighton Beach.
Surprisingly, the little-known director Joshua Marston conveys the magic and madness of living in New York City. Applause, please! It makes this movie worth a visit.

Pay Tribute To Victems Of 9/11 By New York
NEW YORK: New York will lead tributes on Friday to victims of the 9/11 attacks in a ceremony at Ground Zero where work on replacements for the World Trade Center, and even a memorial, remains mostly stalled.
On the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by al Qaeda militants riding hijacked airliners, mourners will remember the 2,752 people who died in the destruction of the Twin Towers in Manhattan.
They will also mourn those who died in the attacks just hours later on the
Pentagon outside Washington and on a fourth plane, which crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers overpowered the hijackers.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other officials will attend the now annual ritual at Ground Zero, when every name is read out and moments of silence mark key events, such as the impact of the two hijacked planes, and the collapse of the towers.
Powerful lights will send beams skyward from the site at nightfall.
Despite a deep desire to properly remember the tragedy, constant financial and legal wrangling has slowed work on replacing the enormous Twin Towers to a snail’s pace.
The financial crisis and downturn in the real estate market have made speedy renewal of the neighborhood even less likely and frustration is rising.
“It has become increasingly clear that New Yorkers should be embarrassed by the debacle that is represented by the failure of government officials to have successfully rebuilt Ground Zero,” Barry LePatner, a construction attorney, said.
“Unfortunately, the only conclusion that can be drawn from a careful study of their actions at this important site is an attitude that the public be damned.”
In theory, five new skyscrapers are planned, with a park and memorial in the middle, and a transport hub. But many now think that there is no market for all five towers.
For now, the site strikes casual observers as merely a large hole, although work on foundations of several key elements is well underway and the frame for the future Freedom Tower is rising.
A poll last week by Quinnipiac University found that two thirds of New Yorkers think even the memorial will not be ready in time for the 10th anniversary in 2011.
“They don’t expect to have any part of Ground Zero ready by the tenth anniversary,” Maurice Carroll, director of the university’s polling institute said.
“We’re getting fed up with the continual lack of progress at Ground Zero. And we think it’s important that there be some signs of movement this year,” Carroll added.
According to the poll, 25 percent of New Yorkers said the slow pace made them “ashamed,” the highest number to give that answer since it was first asked in 2006.

Big B Starrer On The Tribute To Children’s Day.
MUMBAI: The highly-rated Cheeni Kum director Balki is releasing his extremely unusual role-reversal drama Paa on November 13, as a tribute to Children’s Day. “It’s a film about the child within the man and the man within the child. And I can’t think of a better tribute to the child than Children’s Day,” says Balki, who completed the shooting of the film in England recently.
After shooting his two feature films Cheeni Kum and now Paa in England, Balki wants to return to the country again. “We shot Paa in my favourite location England. Throughout the stint in Cambridge, we were at sea, never on land. I love shooting in London. I shot my first two films there. If I had my way, I’d shoot all my films there.” Balki took up the challenge of projecting the Big B like never before. “In Cheeni Kum, I really didn’t have to do anything. I made him play himself. Here in Paa, I had to bring out that child within him, which has always been there. We tapped that part of him. It wasn’t easy for Amitji to play a child at heart. Fortunately, Abhishek and Vidya Balan too are extremely intelligent actors. She has played such a charming mom.
Throughout the film, they behave as if Amitji is their son. For Abhishek, this was his chance to get even with his dad.”
Any regrets about not casting Tabu again? “After what she did with Amitji in Cheeni Kum it wasn’t possible to cast her in Vidya’s role.” Balki is not bothered with how the audience will accept the two actors in reversed roles. “There’s no point in making a film if it doesn’t push envelopes. I won’t do a film that doesn’t challenge me and my actors.”
Another ongoing leitmotif in Balki’s cinema is the music of Ilaiyaraja. “He’s God. He has been a major source of inspiration. I don’t think that India has known a better music composer than him. Sadly, one-half of India has not heard him enough.”
For Cheeni Kum, Balki specifically asked Ilaiyaraja for tunes from his Tamil films. “I wanted Hindi moviegoers to hear those times. Even in Paa, I’ve transposed some of his South Indian tunes into Hindi. It’s not that important to be original. It’s more important to do what you believe in.”
Balki is miffed that the Big B’s Progeria look has been leaked out. “Fortunately, that’s only a part of his look. No one came on the set to see how he looks on camera. The makeup person was given a computer-generated picture of Amitji. He improvised a lot on that and added traits from real Progeria patients.”
