LAHORE: Pakistan paceman Mohammad Asif, who is being investigated by British police in a major spot-fixing scandal, is to celebrate his wedding this week.

Asif and bride Sana Hilal signed a formal wedding contract under Islamic law in March, but a series of celebrations and receptions are due to take place in Pakistan’s cultural capital of Lahore from Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was one of three Pakistani players provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council after a British tabloid claimed no-balls were delivered to order during last month’s Lord’s Test against England.

The ICC is expected to form a commission to hear the case after Scotland Yard completes an investigation.

“I hope marriage will be the turning point in my career and change my life in a positive way,” Asif was quoted as saying by local television channels.

2950504 kings LOS ANGELES — For the Los Angeles Kings, the taste of defeat was especially bitter because it came on the heels of a good effort.

After getting blown out 7-2 in Game 5, the Kings did a lot of the little things right in Game 6. They outshot the Vancouver Canucks, 32-22. They went directly to the net for most of the night. They remained composed and took no dumb penalties. Most importantly, they battled as hard as they could and showed the will to win.

In the end, a trio of elite forwards trumped whatever the Kings threw at them In the end, a trio of elite forwards trumped whatever the Kings threw at them.

“(The) Sedin line played great,” a dejected Ryan Smyth said. “They were the difference tonight and throughout the series. Give them credit for that.””The Sedin line was tremendous,” Kings coach Terry Murray said. “They won the series. They won the game, and they made the difference. That’s what the best players are supposed to do.”

Samuelsson finished with seven goals and four assists, while the Sedins combined for five goals and 13 assists, including Daniel’s game-winner Sunday.

As the Kings sat dejectedly in their locker room after their elimination at the hands of the Canucks, one key moment stood out as the turning point of the series.

Leading 3-2 in the third period of Game 4, Roberto Luongo stopped Dustin Brown on a 2-on-1 opportunity, then shut the door on Alexander Frolov’s breakaway attempt. The Canucks rallied behind the pair of big saves and scored four goals in the third period to even the series at two wins apiece.

Sunday night in Game 6, the Kings led going into the third period. Again, they couldn’t batten down the hatches and were stung by Daniel Sedin’s fourth goal.

“That Game 4 in this building was probably the turning point,” Anze Kopitar said. “If you go up with a 3-1 lead to Vancouver, maybe things are a bit different. But you’ve got to learn from it. It’s going to make us stronger.”

“We had an opportunity in Game 4,” Murray said. “We had a 2-on-1, a breakaway, and (Luongo) makes the save whenever he has to make the save. That made the difference in the outcome of that game

Voters had to decide to repeal or adopt the state law that would allow gay couples-Wed. Adoption of a law by the legislature in May, but never force, since the petition drive conservatives.

An early return was close to the competition, as expected. With 229 608 pedestrian precincts reporting, each side was 50 percent.

The vote to respect the law should mark the first time that the voters of any state support for gay marriage. This could energize activists nationwide and the blunt conservative claims that same-sex marriage has been foisted on state judges and legislators in the course is public.

However, repeal – New England, the region supports the country’s largest gay couples – would be another heartbreaking loss for the marriage equality movement, then opposed gay marriage in California a year ago.

It would also mark the first time voters had torpedoed the gay marriage law enacted by the legislature. When Californians rejected same-sex marriage, it was a response to the court’s decision, not legislation.

Maine Secretary of State, Matthew Dunlap, said turnout appeared higher than expected in the off-year elections, and voter interest came out strong. Even before Tuesday, more than 100,000 people – out of about 1 million registered voters – had voted absentee voting or polling.

Five other states have legalized gay marriage – Iowa, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Connecticut – but it was all so by law or court decision, not popular vote. Instead, constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage has been approved in all 30 Member States, where they have been in the vote. Source
