European Union leaders have agreed to set up a eurozone rescue fund. This step has been taken for permanent safety net to bail out any member state whose debt problems threaten the 16-nation eurozone. The new mechanism, which will start from 2013, will succeed the eurozone’s temporary bailout fund.
President of European Union Commission has said that after amendments in European agreement, Euro will get stronger position in market. The agreement comes as Spain raised just under 2.5 billion euros on the bond market, but at heavy cost, paying twice as much interest as Germany would have. Meanwhile, rating agency has warned it may again downgrade Greece’s credit rating over concerns about the country’s ability to cut debt to sustainable levels.

WASHINGTON: Only one in 10 Americans keep their salt intake within recommended levels, with the rest overstepping the limits and risking high blood pressure and heart ailments, a CDC report said Thursday.
The Atlanta, Georgia-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found the average daily sodium intake of Americans was 3,466 milligrams, twice as much as recommended in health authorities” guidelines.
Americans in good health are advised to consume less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day, while people with high blood pressure, all middle-age and older adults and all African-Americans should limit their intake to 1,500 milligrams. The CDC study found that only 9.6 percent of the US population fall within the sodium intake guidelines, including 5.5 percent of the group limited to 1,500 milligrams and 18.8 percent of the 2,300 milligrams per day group.
It also determined that 77 percent of the salt eaten by Americans comes from processed and restaurant foods, especially pizza, breads and cookies that “may not even taste salty.”

don t ask don t tell

WASHINGTON — The House on Thursday delivered a victory to President Barack Obama and gay rights groups by approving a proposal to repeal the law that allows gays to serve in the military only if they don’t disclose their sexual orientation.
The 234-194 vote to overturn the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy reflected a view among many in Congress that America was ready for a military in which gays and straights can stand side by side in the trenches.
(Click here to view roll call of vote. Scroll down to see which lawmakers broke with their party.)
“I know that our military draws its strength on the integrity of our unified force, and current law challenges this integrity by creating two realities within the ranks,” Rep. Susan Davis, D-Calif., said.
Republicans, who voted overwhelmingly against it, cited statements by some military leaders that they need more time to study how a change in the law could affect the lives and readiness of service members.
The House vote came just hours after the Senate Armed Services Committee took the same course and voted 16-12 in favor of repealing the 1993 law. In both cases the measure was offered as an amendment to a defense spending bill.
Obama and leading Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had actively supported the repeal so that gays could serve in the military without fear of being exposed and discharged.

200 others injured following explosion and collision; sabotage by Maoist rebels suspectedA bomb apparently planted by Maoist rebels derailed an overnight passenger train that was then hit by a cargo train in eastern India on Friday, killing at least 65 people and injuring an additional 200, officials said.
The passenger train was travelling from Calcutta to the Mumbai suburb of Kurla when 13 cars derailed in a rural part of West Bengal state near the small town of Sardiha, about 150 kilometres west of Calcutta. A cargo train then slammed into three of the cars from the other direction, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said.
A.P. Mishra, general manager of the railway system in that area, said the train had been derailed by a bomb and that the rail tracks had also been sabotaged. Mr. Banerjee said authorities suspected that the bomb was planted by Maoist rebels.sorce theglobeandmail.com/
one laptop per child

The news that the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project is close to launching a $75 tablet for children is pretty remarkable. Non-profit founder Nicholas Negroponte said this week that OLPC hopes to have a working prototype of its XO-3 tablet computer by December 2010, and that it plans to debut the device at the January 2011 Consumer Electronics Show.
The sub-$100 price tag will be prove even more astounding if the XO-3 fulfills its creators’ goals of melding the iPad, Kindle, and laptop into a durable, kid-friendly package.
Why A Tablet, OLPC? Laptop Is Better For Education
But is this a realistic goal for such a low-cost device? Given the history of OLPC’s much-ballyhooed $100 laptop, which never quite hit its aggressive price point and now costs nearly twice as much (you can donate one for $199 to a child in a developing nation), I have my doubts. And don’t forget about the abandoned XO-2 touchscreen device, a project cancelled last year when OLPC realized the unit would cost too much to make, Forbes reports.
