President Zardari telephones Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday telephoned PML-N leader Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and exchanged Eid greetings with him.

The President also condoled with PML-N chief at the sad demise of his uncle Mian Miraj Din, and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.

The two leaders also agreed upon the need to work together to strengthen democracy and the democratic institutions. Trend Pk

Kidnapped and kept in slave labour camp in Pakistan, UK girl claims

LONDON: British police are to probe strange claims of a Pakistani-born woman that she was forcibly kept in a slave labour camp in Pakistan for nearly a decade.

Nahida Bi from Glasgow has told the police she was abducted near the airport in Islamabad in 2000 soon after she landed there on a holiday along with her mother. Her uncle, Masood, who came to receive them, was also abducted, she added.

She said both were taken to a terrorist camp in a tribal area where she was forced to repair firearms along with other captive women. She said the kidnappers initially asked for a huge ransom, but subsequently put her to work and repeatedly abused her. Three weeks ago, they suddenly released her along with her uncle and some other captive women near Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab.

The British police are having a tough time verifying Nahida”s claims as nearly a decade has passed since her reported abduction. The police told The Guardian that her family members initially informed the British home office about her kidnap in 2000, but were never heard from till 2007 when they again made contact saying Nahida had been missing for the past seven years.

She now believes she was held in the Swat valley in North-West Frontier province. It is understood her uncle returned to his home in Pakistan after being freed.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Gunn of Strathclyde police, Glasgow said: ”We will continue to liaise with the authorities in Pakistan and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to aid them with their ongoing investigations.”

MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment in association with Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures presents ISHQIYA starring Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi essentially.

Produced by Raman Maroo and Vishal Bhardwaj ISHQIYA is scheduled to release somewhere in December 2009. Ishqiya is being directed by Vishal’s assistant, debutante Abhishek Chaubey. The music department has been handled by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics penned by maestro Gulzar.

In Ishqiya Vidya is playing a very complex character and will be seen speaking the UP dialect which is a common feature in Vishal Bharadwaj’s movies. She also has a very different look in the film. Her character in the film is said to be slightly grey, a scheming woman, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, and is two timing the uncle-nephew jodi of Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi.

Synopsis:

Ishqiya is a story of romance between individuals caught in a web of crime, suspense, passion, and deceit. Two thieves, Khalujan and Babban, are on the run from their boss, Mushtaq. They seek refuge with an old friend, and instead meet his widow, Krishna. As they plan their escape, their time spent together draws the duo to her, Khalu with his tinted vision of old-fashioned love, and Babban with his lustful eye. The threat of imminent death forces them on a path of violence and betrayal. Set in a rural landscape Ishqiya explores basic human emotions as influenced by desire, greed and revenge.
