ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has said that an agreement with the United States has been finalized to monitor aid which is to be received under the Kerry-Lugar Bill.
The Finance Minister, addressing a seminar organized by Transparency International Pakistan in Islamabad, said that amended sales tax will be implemented from October 1.
He added that the flood caused devastation has plunged the country into severe difficulties and it is need of the hour that philanthropists come forward to provide aid for the flood affected people.
“The usage of the flood relief fund will be made fully transparent,” Abdul Hafeez Sheikh added. SAMAA
Govt. accords priority to social sector development: PM
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Thursday said government considers social sector development as its top priority.
Chairing a meeting on social sector cooperation with USA under the Kerry-Lugar Act, the Prime Minister emphasized that the relevant Ministries and organizations should not loose sight of the welfare and benefits to the people at large.
Prime Minister said the social sector development was a significant area requiring concerted efforts and appropriate allocations both through own sources as well as assistance from friendly countries.
The Prime Minister said the National Education Policy comprehensively covers various aspects, which would help achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
He said the Health Policy and women empowerment initiatives also have to be holistic to meet the growing needs of the society.

Sarolea Motorcycles
Sarolea Motorcycles, Guess we are all aware of the widely watched show on History channel, titled ‘Pawn Stars’, where priceless old acquisitions and antiquities are pawned.
As per the latest, it would appear that the current episode of the widely followed History caper featured an old Sarolea motorcycle.
It is learned that in the ‘Pawn Star’ episode, someone was featured selling a rare 1942 model of Sarolea motorcycle, a kind which is extremely rare, with only about five known units existing in the United States.
It is further known that a bloke named Corey was shown as buying the motorcycle for $ 4,500, and the same, upon auction fetched a cool $ 7,000.
And just to lay a sense of the genesis of this ragingly popular motorcycle maker from Belgium, the Sarolea firm was established in 1850 at Herstal (Liege) as an arms factory by Joseph Saroléa. In 1892 the production of bicycles was started.
Joseph died in 1894 and under the management of his sons the company grew bigger and bigger. In the 20s the firm got successfully involved with long distance runs, reliability trials and hill climbs. From 1927 on the company made its own gearboxes and early in 1929 the factory was extended to some 6000 m2.
In the early years of the century Saroléas were sold in Britain under the Kerry brand. Both singles and V twins were made and the firm supplied engines to a number of firms in several countries. In turn, Saroléa used a number of British components such as Sturmey Archer gearboxes and AMAC carburettors. In the 20s the firm got successfully involved with long distance runs, reliability trials and hill climbs.

Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty
Lahore, Pakistan:- Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan would not compromise on its security, sovereignty and internal affairs and all the apprehensions on Kerry-Lugar Bill have been allayed.
Addressing a meeting of federal and provincial ministers and MPAs of PPP, the foreign minister said that $ 7.5 billion money under the Kerry-Lugar Bill would be aid not a debt and it would improve significantly in the social sector. On the occasion, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer said all the powers of the world are supporting the stance of Pakistan in war against terrorism, which is a great success of the government.
He said that the ministry of foreign affairs had portrayed a positive image of Pakistan by countering negative propaganda by strong arguments and lobbying on the international front. On this occasion, Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khurshid Shah said that the government was taking steps for laborers to help them become self-sufficient in life.
