Alleged Leaks source faces death penalty

WASHIGNTON: Bradley Manning, the alleged source of the WikiLeaks US cables is facing 22 additional criminal charges. While the US government seem unwilling or unable to get their hands on Julian Assange at this stage, the man who allegedly released the initial leaks is now facing the death penalty.

Manning was first charged in July 2010, after he was allegedly discovered obtaining over 150,000 diplomatic cables and sending a military video to an unauthorised person. He is now in a military jail outside of Washinton, D.C, and with these new charges he doesn’t look like leaving any time soon.

The most serious of the new charges is an allegation of aiding the enemy, a crime that is punishable by death. In the description of this charge, the term “enemy” is not only defined as an opposing force, but any “hostile body”, a vague term that includes “civilians as well as members of military organizations.”

There is no mention at all of WikiLeaks or Julian Assange in the charge sheet, which is “not surprising since the Justice Department has opened an espionage case against Assange and would not want to give away any details of its investigation until it’s completed.” said CBS national security correspondent David Martin.

Manning was discovered partly due to a tip-off from Adrian Lamo, a hacker who pleaded guilty to breaking into the New York Times’ computer network in 2004. Lamo has said he considers Manning to be a spy, but doesn’t expect him to be put to death.

Manning is now being kept in solitary confinement, with heavily restricted activities and minimal human contact. He has made a complaint about his conditions, part of which reads “I sit in my cell for 24 hours a day. I am stripped of all clothing with the exception of my underwear. My prescription eyeglasses are taken away from me. I am forced to sit in essential blindness…Additionally, there is a guard sitting outside of my cell watching me at all times.”(AFP)

Girls Without Bra And Underwear, Let me get this off my 36C chest – I’ve always hated the phrase “training bra.”  What are we training?  Breasts don’t need to be trained.  It’s not like a bicycle where you eventually remove training wheels and you’re off.  It’s hard enough for a girl to actually put on her first bra, so let’s not make it worse with a dumb name like training bra!  Okay, my rant is over.

Thank you. It’s pretty much universal as to when a girl needs to get her first bra – middle school.  It was for me, but it was called Junior High.  Up until my first gym class, I had always worn an undershirt.  But then I found myself having to undress in front of my peers, and everyone was looking at each other to see what was being worn.  I ran home and informed my Mom that I needed a bra. As a mother to two daughters, it pretty much went down the same way.  My oldest is now 13, but has always been fascinated with wearing a bra.  I was able to find some for her when she was around 8 – they didn’t really fit, but she wasn’t really wearing them either; they just made her feel grown up.  Then, during the first week of 5th grade, we had to get serious about finding bras for her to wear every day.  Now, my second daughter is in 5th grade, and as reluctant as she is to grow-up (she once told me she wants to take her childhood slowly) even she has informed me that the peer pressure is on and she needs to be wearing a bra too.

Now I know what you’re thinking; I’m in the business, so it should be simple for me.  I honestly thought the same thing.  But boy, it wasn’t.  My older daughter was my foray into this difficult project.  She measured a 32AA.  So, I went on my site and looked.  About a dozen styles appeared.  I bought all of them and brought them home for her to try on.

Here’s what I learned.  Wacoal makes a really fabulous line of petite bras.  But they do not fit young girls properly.  The underwires fall on the wrong part of their body, and the cups don’t look right.  The Wacoal petite bras really are designed for a petite woman – not a young girl.  Any bra with an underwire is problematic, and frankly unnessesary.  Yes, my daughter liked the look and the idea of wearing a bra with an underwire – very grown up in her mind.  But again, the wires tend to fall in strange places, and without enough breast tissue, tend to move up the chest.

CAIRO: Osama Bin Laden Vows to Keep up Attacks on US, Al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden issued a new audio message claiming responsibility for the Christmas day bombing attempt in Detroit and vowed further attacks.

In a recording carried by the Al-Jazeera Arabic news channel, Bin Laden addressed President Barak Obama saying the attack was a message like that of Sept. 11 and more attacks against the U.S. would be forthcoming.

“The message delivered to you through the plane of the heroic warrior Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was a confirmation of the previous messages sent by the heroes of the Sept. 11,” he said.

“America will never dream of security unless we will have it in reality in Palestine,” he added. “God willing, our raids on you will continue as long as your support to the Israelis will continue.”

On Christmas Day, Nigerian national Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to blow up the Northwest Airlines flight he was sitting on as it approached Detroit Metro Airport. But the bomb he was hiding in his underwear failed to explode.

Abdulmutallab told federal agents shortly afterward that he had been trained and instructed in the plot by al-Qaida operatives in Yemen.

There was no way to confirm the voice was actually that of Bin Laden, but it resembled previous recordings attributed to him.
