Dry, cold weather forecasted in country

ISLAMABAD: Cold and dry spell of weather will prevail across the country during the next 24 hours, predicted the Met Office here on Monday.

According to Met Department, the snap cold could lose its intensity in most areas of the country in next some days. Fog was also likely to prevail over plains of Punjab; however, after two days, it will start to wear off.

The night time temperature will rise by 3 to 5 degree centigrade in most areas.

Moreover, light rain at isolated places was expected in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan on Tuesday. Some areas in Upper Punjab and Kashmir may receive light rains on Wednesday and Thursday.

Met Department also forecasted the first snowfall of this winter in Kashmir and Northern Areas on Thursday and Friday.

Minimum temperature today in Skardu was recorded at -10 degree

ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department on Monday has predicted rain with lightening in some parts of Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Kohat, Hazara Division and Kashmir during next 24 hours.

According to Met office, hot and dry weather expected in various parts of country. Some parts of Upper Punjab and Kashmir had received rain with lightening during last 24 hours.

Light rain brings relief; isolated rain predicted

ISLAMABAD: Light rain followed by dust storm in turned weather of twin cities pleasant, bringing relief to residents from prolonged heatwave conditions.

The residents, fatigued by scorching heat, were yearning for rain enjoyed rain and their wish came true when the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi received light rain on Monday evening.

A high intensity of dust-storm hit the twin cities earlier.

However, the wind speed of today”s dust storm recorded by met office was 70 kilometre per hour in Islamabad and 90 km per hour in Rawalpindi.

An official of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that pre-monsoon currents of weak to moderate intensity penetrating in eastern parts of the country will cause thunderstorm, rain in Upper Punjab, Hazara Division and Lower Sindh during next 24 hours.

The western disturbance over upper parts still persists and is likely to prevail for next two days.

The official said that thunderstorm along with rain is expected at scattered places of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during next two days.

However, weather will remain hot and dry in most parts of Sindh and Balochistan during next few days. The city”s maximum temperature will remain between 35 to 37 degree centigrade.

Karachi also receive isolated light rain today.

Phet to roar to Pakistan after Oman landing

KARACHI: Strong tropical cyclone brewing up in Arabian Sea is fast approaching Omani coastline, after which it will turn to Pakistan, Geo News reported Thursday.

The Cyclone Phet will downgrade its intensity after smashing into the Omani Sultanate; meanwhile, Karachi is expected to receive heavy downpours associated with strong gales in the afternoon today.

According to Met Department, the coastal areas in Muscat and Oman will be lashed with showers in next 36 hours with Phet raging 900 kilometers to southwest of Karachi.

The cyclone is expected to gain more intensity during next 24 hours and turn to Sindh coastal areas today.

Rains are expected in Upper Punjab including Islamabad, Upper Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in the next 24 hours; besides, gale-strong winds are likely in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

The next three to four days in Lower Sindh areas are crucial with stormy gales and heavy rains predicted. The same is expected in Karachi.

According to Balochistan Met Department, the next 24 hours are extremely important for the coastal areas. The tropical storm is expected to lose its intensity; however, if the cyclone forges ahead with its force and strength intact, then Balochistan’s coastal areas including Marah, Pasni and Gwadar may be hit.

Storm’s intensity would be felt more in Sindh areas including Badin, Thatta and Karachi than Balochistan.

Commuters fear more serious travel problems on Tuesday. Reports have been received that many pick-and-drop service providers serving students have expressed their inability to ply vehicles on Tuesday.

Several hundred commuters travelling between Rawalpindi and Islamabad suffered as limited transport was on roads.

People were seen stranded on roads due to lack of transport, while some private car drivers, who were low on fuel, also faced difficulty.
