Veterans Day Activities,Veterans Day Crafts:Veterans Day ceremonies begin at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday,  in the Hevelone Center at Beatrice Senior High School.  Master of ceremonies is Burt Foreman. The address will be given by BG Roma J. Amundson, Assistant Adjutant General-Army, Lincoln.  The Beatrice High School Band, under the direction of Nathan Lefeber, will play the “Star Spangled Banner” and “” target=”_blank”>Salute of America’s Finest.” The invocation will be given by the Rev. David Kramer, co-pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, with greetings by Beatrice High School Principal Jason Sutter.  Taps and Echo will be performed by Troy Summers and Anna Spilker, and the firing squad conducted by Bitting-Norman American Legion Post 27.  Other participants include: Bitting-Norman Post 27 American Auxiliary; Marine Corps League; Pearl Harbor Survivors; Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary; Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary; Daughters of Union Veterans.  The annual event is sponsored by local veterans organizations and  the Gage County Veterans Service office.  There will be no Avenue of Flags display at the Gage County Courthouse this year due to ongoing construction.  Lewiston  A community and school Veterans Day program is being held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Lewiston Consolidated Schools.  Guest speaker is retired J.P. Green, Associate Secretary of State, Nebraska. Green has been with the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office since August 2009. He previously worked in Washington, D.C., for 12 years, including five years as a staff member at the U.S. Senate and three years as an executive branch appointee.  The program includes guest clergy Sharon Schuster, parish ministry associate, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Beatrice; greetings by student council president Erica Thomas; and musical selections by the Lewiston School Music Department, directed by Stacy Hahn. Closing remarks will be provided by Lewiston Superintendent of Schools Bruce McCoy. Master of ceremonies will be Brig. Gen. Charles “Jim” Barr, with posting and retiring of colors by American Legion posts from Burchard, Crab Orchard, Liberty and Virginia.  A covered dish luncheon will be held at the Virginia Legion Post with meat and drink provided. The event is sponsored by Fisher Post 367 of Virginia.  Sterling  A Veterans Day program will be held Wednesday, at 9:45 a.m. in the Sterling School gym in Sterling. There will be refreshments and social time in the school cafeteria beginning at 9 a.m.  Guest speaker for the program will be CDR Joel A. Merriman of the United States Navy.  There will be a display of military memorabilia and uniforms. Sterling students will also have a gallery of patriotic posters on display. For additional information, contact the school at 402-866-4761.  On Sunday, Nov. 8, American Legion Post 140 of Sterling will host its annual Veterans Day pancake feed at the Legion Hall from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  Fairbury  Veterans Day will be observed at the Fairbury VFW Building, sponsored by the Fairbury VFW and Fairbury American Legion. The community band will play at 5:45 p.m., with a soup and sandwich meal for veterans and spouses at that time, and the program at 7 p.m. Bill Williams, Honor Flight coordinator, will be the guest speaker.
