Gas tariff to be increased before Eid

In applications given to OGRA, Sui Northern demanded an increase of Rs 22. 48 per MMBTU, while Sui Southern demanded Rs 22.35 per MMBUT.

The companies are of the view to increase the revenues; the increase in tariff is inevitable. Sui Northern says an additional revenue of Rs 13.65 billion is needed while Sui Northern demanded Rs 0.93 billion.

The companies also demanded the expenditures of elected representatives’ schemes. The OGRA has already increased the gas tariff by 13.55 percent.

Peshawar: IDPs protest against not receiving aid

The internally displaced persons (IDPs) protested against non-availability of aid in front of World Food Programme Centre on Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

The protesters raised slogans against governments and administration of the centre and also blocked the road. The protesters were of the view that the administration of the World Food Programme Centre was involved in corruption and distributes the aid items among undeserved persons.

Gilani boasts-off believing in politics of reconciliation

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that he believes in politics of reconciliation. He also said that the meeting of PPP leaders with PML-Q leadership would not strain the relations of government with PML-N. The prime minister also said that he wants to take everybody along under his reconciliatory approach, Dunya News reported on Thursday.
On the other hand, Mian Nawaz Sharif said that PML-N is least bothered about the recent PPP, PML-Q meeting. He also said that politics should be based on principles. Mian Nawaz Sharif was of the view that politics without principles should not be followed or exercised and morality should be taken into consideration.

Faisalabad: Recruitment for constables, 1 died in running test

Six young men fell unconscious while appearing in a running test for the post of police constables while one of them died on his way to hospital.
At least 35,000 candidates submitted their application for 260 posts of constables in which 11,000 candidates were short listed for physical test. Six candidates fell unconscious during the running test in which they had to complete distance of 1 mile in one minute. A candidate Hafeezullah, a resident of Jaranwala, died before reaching hospital. Candidates were of the view that proper facilities were not provided to them due to which they faced difficulties.

Karachi: Lift collapses in private hospital, injures six

A lift collapsed in a private hospital in the area of North Karachi, injuring at least six people, Dunya news reported on Saturday.
A lift in Remedial Hospital situated in North Karachi, owing to its outdated condition as well as being overloaded, fell from the second floor. The collapse injured four women and two men who were immediately given medical treatment in the same hospital. The lift-collapse caused broken legs of two of the four women inside it.
People were of the view that the incident happened due to hospital administrations negligence.

Bopanna-Qureshi in doubles quarters

NEW YORK: India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi advanced to the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the US Open with an upset win over second seeded Canadian-Serbian pair of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.

Indo-Zimbabwean pair of Leander Paes and Cara Black also advanced to the last-eight stage of the tournament in the mixed doubles event.

The 16th seeded Indo-Pak pair of Bopanna and Qureshi streamrolled their opponents 6-3, 6-4 in a one-sided pre-quarterfinal clash at Flushing Meadows.

Both Bopanna and Qureshi were on song with their trademark aggressive serves and precision forehands as the duo demolised the Grand Slam contenders in straight sets.

They will next face the daunting South African-Belgian pair of Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman, who reached the semi-finals of the French Open and Wimbledon this year.

KARACHI: Black marketing has started on new currency notes as Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, SAMAA reported Tuesday.

As the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr is near approaching, along with the increasing demand for new currency notes, dealers of new currency notes have become active and have started black marketing them. Banks are liable to give a single pack of new notes on display of a National Identity Card (NIC).

This year, the State Bank has given this responsibility to commercial banks. Citizens are of the view that business communities have taken hold of new currency notes. SAMAA
