Action Replayy all set to enter Oscar library
The makers of Action Replayy have a reason to smile. After all the screenplay of their film has been invited by the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences which wants it for its permanent script collection. Producer-director Vipul Shah got intimation on this regard early this week and he is making the necessary arrangements to ensure that a copy of the screenplay reaches Margaret Herrick library of the Academy.
Confirms Vipul, “Yes, they have shown a keen interest in preserving the screenplay of Action Replayy. They send out the invites for those films which they need for research purpose. Even earlier, a copy of screenplay of Namastey London was shared with them when they had expressed their desire for that. I am glad that they feel Action Replayy is worthy enough for students of cinema to read and learn.”
Screenplay of Action Replayy has been written by Vipul Shah and Aatish Kapadia. While the film has managed to make an impression at the Academy, ironically in ‘apna Bollywood’, many critics were far away from being kind to this Akshay Kumar-Aishwarya Rai film.
“It only shows that how far detached are quite a few of our esteemed critics are from grasping the real content of cinema”, shrugs away Vipul here, “Academy has shown so much good interest, those from the audience who have seen the film have liked it but then some really scathing comments from the critics did come as a shocker. Now that the screenplay is going to the Oscars library, it is definitely redemption of sorts.”
Action Replayy release stalled?

Looking back, every time a film is up for release there is usually some claim being staked in the court of law hindering the release of the film. Well, it’s the same with the upcoming Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Action Replayy.
The film which is produced by Vipul Shah has a case that has been filed against it in the Bombay High Court for non payment of dues. The litigation has been filed by Dubai based entertainment company Eros Worldwide. In the complaint, Eros claims approximately Rs. 6.56 crore that is still to be repaid by the producers.
Eros Worldwide had filed a suit yesterday, through their legal firm Manilal Kher Ambalal and Co. The petition that was filed stated that the defendant (Vipul Shah) be restrained from exhibiting, causing to exhibit, releasing, communicating to the public in any manner, exploiting, delivering the prints to any third party or in any other manner exploiting or suffering the exploitation of the film Action Replayy which is scheduled to be released in first week of November.
The High Court vacation judge, Justice JH Bhatia, has kept the matter for hearing on November 4, and has further stated that the involved parties should try and reach a settlement out of court before the appointed date mutually.

Akshay and Aishwarya to drive retro car on Marine Drive

Akshay Kumar is all set to give a new dimension to the saying ‘Leaving no stone unturned’. As his film Action Replayy is nearing its grand gala release, Akki and the Vipul Shah seem to be having some great gala plans for the film’s promotions. Firstly, it was Akki turning into a DJ who would be playing the hit tracks from the 70s.
Well, now, it seems that Akki and his (on-screen) lady love Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are all set to take the viewers for a ride of their lives. Well, before you get any designs about this lovey-dovey couple, let us clarify that come October 25, Akki and Ash can be seen on a vintage car in Marine Drive (Mumbai), as a part of the film’s promotions. On that day, the two superstars will also turn ‘Love Gurus’ and teach their fans how to woo their lovers. Well, the ‘ride’ doesn’t end there. Director Vipul Shah, in an attempt to spice up the promotions a bit more, said that one lucky ticket buyer will actually get to drive the same Impala car (with Akki and Ash) that has been used in the film. Vipul also adds that promotions of similar sorts are also being worked upon in Delhi as well.
Hope, all these jigs work in the favour of the film.

Okay, so everyone’s speculating about the release date of Aamir Khan’s DHOBI GHAT. Besides the fact that it’s an Aamir Khan production and is directed by his wife Kiran, the film is being eyed minutely because it stars Aamir in a pivotal role. In the past, Aamir has released his movies in Christmas – TAARE ZAMEEN PAR [2007], GHAJINI [2008] and 3 IDIOTS [2009] – and it’s said that Aamir will bring DHOBI GHAT this Christmas.
But the truth is something else. Aamir is not releasing DHOBI GHAT on 24th December this year. In fact, he has finalized the month of release, but not the date of release of DHOBI GHAT. Aamir confirmed it to this writer: “We are thinking of February 2011 for DHOBI GHAT. Not locked the final date yet.” That should put an end to all speculation… and those planning to release their films on 24th December this year, can heave a sigh of relief.
‘Action Replayy’: High on entertainment

Picture this: A teenage youth watches his parents bickering and squabbling. This upsets him no end. He wants his parents’ life to be perfect. He goes back into time. He lands up in the 1970s, the era when his parents were bachelors. The adventure begins… A super cool idea, isn’t it? That’s the gist of Vipul Shah’s ACTION REPLAYY, which brings Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan together after a hiatus [after KHAKEE].
Remake of Vipul Shah’s hugely successful play by the same name, ACTION REPLAYY seems to have loads of entertainment to offer, which has always been the film-maker’s forte. In fact, the 15-minute showreel that this writer watched, besides the first promo that will be unveiled shortly, ACTION REPLAYY comes across as a film that’s high on entertainment.
Also, like OM SHANTI OM and ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI, ACTION REPLAYY projects the retro look – the 1970s era and ambience – with utmost élan. In fact, you can’t help but get transported into the era within seconds of watching the showreel. Akshay and Ash carry the retro look with flourish and I am sure, it will be the talking point once the promos are launched.
This Diwali, get ready to embrace two solid entertainers. Having watched the showreel of both ACTION REPLAYY and GOLMAAL 3, one can safely assume that this will be the best Diwali ever, in terms of business. Fingers crossed!

Sanjay Gupta may be busy casting for his remake of the Spanish film Ladron Que Roba Ladron but before that film goes on floors, Gupta will be producing another film Milte Hain to be directed by Meghna Gulzar.
Vidya Balan has been signed for the lead role while the hunt for the male actor is still on. Vishal Bhardwaj would be composing music for this flick while Gulzar saab would be penning the lyrics. Milte Hain is apparently based on an Australian play Double Act and Gupta has gone ahead and legally acquired the rights to remake.
Genelia D’Souza replaces Asin in Kakha Kakha remake
It’s a common adage that ‘The only thing that’s constant is Change’. One has seen many a Bollywood star getting replaced in films and also brand endorsements, for many varied reasons. The latest in this category is that of Genelia D’Souza replacing Asin in the Hindi remake of the mega hit Tamil film Kakha Kakha. It will now be Genelia and not Asin, who will be seen romancing the hunky John Abraham.
For starters, the original Tamil film Kakha Kakha was directed by Gautham Menon and had starred two of Tamil Nadu’s heartthrobs Surya and Jyothika. While Vipul Shah wanted to make the film in Hindi, it was Nishikant Kamath (who had directed Mumbai Meri Jaan) who was chosen as the director. While the rest of the details of the cast are still being worked upon, one wonders as to what could be the reason behind the sudden replacement of Asin from the film.
Genelia’s spokesperson refused to comment on this development.
