South Africa Vs England – 1st ODI Abandoned
The opening ODI of the 5-match Series between South Africa and England was abandoned due to heavy rain. This ODI was supposed to be a day night affair at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. None of the players had even left their hotels to the ground. The second ODI is on the 22nd at the Centurion Park in Pretoria.

India-Sri Lanka first Test tomorrow at Ahmedabad
After a very long time, India finally gets to play Test Cricket, infact the last time played the longer version was back in April against New Zealand! For the record, the last Test they played at home was in December 2008 against England. That’s quite stunning to see Test Cricket take a backseat not because of the quality but solely due to the emergence of various T20 Tournaments all of a sudden.
The India-Sri Lanka Test Series which starts tomorrow is not going to lack any entertainment for sure. The Indian team has an exciting batting line-up which begins with Virender Sehwag at the top, the three experienced guns in Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman followed by the young Yuvraj and Dhoni. Partnering Sehwag is one of India’s underrated player in Gautam Gambhir who has played a couple of great knocks against Australia and New Zealand. The Sri Lankans are exciting in their own right because of the three superb spinners in Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis and Rangana Herath. It is a pity if one of Mendis and Herath is going to sit out in the match.
The contest between the Sri Lankan spinners and the Indian batsmen will be a mouth-watering one. The Indian bowling attack will rely on Harbhajan Singh as usual though he should be getting decent support from Amit Mishra. I expect Harbhajan Singh to take most of his wicket with the sptting top spinner that perfectly lands on the seam. Well and Zaheer Khan makes a comeback into international cricket and will most probably have Ishant Sharma as his new ball partner. As India tends to play with six batsman plus the wicket keeper batsman, the talented Sreesanth might be cooling his heels in the dressing room.
The first Test is at the Motera in Ahmedabad which traditionally takes spin. The pitch at Motera has also been on the drier side which means that the conditions are conducive for reverse swing. Motera wicket has also been traditionally slow and low as the match progresses. The Indian pace attack here scores over the Sri Lankans in this regard. Nuwan Kulasekara did superbly against Pakistan in Sri Lanka but will his swing bowling be effective against the technically sound Indian batsmen remains to be seen. Sri Lanka could also take India’s route of playing it safe by having 6 batsmen in the side.
Sri Lanka have never won a Test Match in India and their bowlers have struggled to take wickets on the generally good better batting tracks here compared to what it is back home. The pressure will be on them really to keep the heavily talented Indian batting down. At the same time, their batsmen led by Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene have to ensure that they get the big scores and not get out after getting a start.
CricketMove.com will be providing the Live Scorecard of this India Vs Sri Lanka 1st Test along with Ball by Ball Commentary.

South Africa square T20I Series 1-1
After a 1-run defeat in the first T20I at the Wanderers, South Africa fought back with a crushing 84-run win in the second match today at Centurion. South Africa batting first plundered 241 for 6 with openers Graeme Smith (88 from 44 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes) and Loots Bosman (94 from 45 balls with 5 fours and 9 sixes) putting up 170 in 13.1 overs.
England in their chase could just come up with 157 for 8 with only Jonathan Trott (51 from 40 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes) scoring anything significant. Loots Bosman got the Man of the Match for his second successive fifty.

Rain helps England to squeeze a 1-run win
England just managed to win the first T20I at the Wanderers in Johannesburg by a narrow margin of one run. South Africa needed to be at 128 for 3 in 13 overs when rain stopped any further action. The Proteas despite knowing the target of 8 from the over of James Anderson could manage only six runs to lose the match.
Earlier Graeme Smith put England in and his bowlers were at the receiving end from a sparkling knock of 85 from 45 balls (with 7 fours and 5 sixes) from left hander Eoin Morgan. The Irish man got the Man of the Match award. Skipper Paul Collingwood batted superbly as well to get 57 from 32 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes while one down bat Jonatthan Trott struck 5 fours in a crisp knock of 33 from 25 balls.
England smashed their way to 202 for 6 in 20 overs but the target looked under threat when Loots Bossman showed his true potential. Along with Graeme Smith, Bossman sent shivers in the English bowlers with some outstanding shots. Both Smith and Bossman were dismissed in quick succession in the space of 5 balls to reduce SA to 101 for 2 in the 10th over. Bossman smacked 58 from 31 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes and Smith was equally effective with his 41 from 23 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
South Africa finished at 127 for 3 in 13 overs when rain had the last laugh. For the visitors, Graeme Swann did the turn around giving 15 runs off his last two overs at a time when the Proteas were looking at plenty of runs for a win. Anderson was also another crucial bowler as he could keep the pair of AB de Villiers and Albie Morkel down to just the singles in what turned out to be the last over.

England Vs South Africa First T20 today
JOHANNESBURG: England Vs South Africa First T20 today, England’s two-and-a-half-month tour of South Africa begins today with the first of two T20 internationals at the Wanderers.
Watch Live Cricket
England’s preparations were going well until their defeat against South Africa A when the batting subsided for 89 all out, while injuries haven’t helped the planning. Paul Collingwood takes the reins for the Twenty20s before Andrew Strauss returns for the one-dayers .
South Africa, on the other hand, were hitting their stride against Zimbabwe with a crushing 212-run victory in the second ODI at Centurion. The home side will use the Twenty20s as a chance to give all the players in the squad a run, with the exception of the injured Wayne Parnell, but there is also the need to prepare for next year’s ICC World Twenty20.

For both teams the next two matches could be the only Twenty20 games they play before that global event in West Indies.

Watch Pakistan Vs New Zealand 2nd Semi Final ICC Champions Trophy live
JOHANNESBURG :
Watch Live Cricket Match Pakistan have edge over New Zealand in the second semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy to be played here on Saturday.
Pakistan and New Zealand faced each other in 61 ODIs, of which the green shirts have triumph in 37 while the Kiwis have won only 22 matches. One ODI match between the two teams was tied while other was ended without any result.
It may be noted here that only two matches had been played in South African pitches, in which Pakistan had defeated the Kiwis.
Most of the matches played at the home grounds of New Zealand, the Kiwis have won, while Pakistan have defeated it in neutral grounds as well as in Pakistan.
On paper Pakistan are favourites and over the years they have used New Zealand as a stepping-stone in big tournaments. In 1992, New Zealand’s first defeat in the World Cup opened doors for Pakistan’s progress to the semi-final, where they were beaten by the same opposition.
The semi-final in the 1999 World Cup was a repeat. In the World Twenty20 in 2009, it was against New Zealand that Pakistan discovered momentum, and never lost it.
New Zealand supporters, though, would want to look back at the semi-final of the Champions Trophy in 2000, when they beat Pakistan, and went on to win the final too.
Unlike their famous triumphs, the 1992 World Cup and the World Twenty20 earlier this year, Pakistan have looked solid from the off in South Africa. They have looked more like the Pakistan of the 1999 World Cup.
Pakistani bowling attack has appeared the most settled, the most varied, and the most skilful of the lot in this tournament. Their batting is the weak link – it has fluctuated from very good, against India, to circumspect, against Australia and West Indies.
If Pakistan lose the toss and are put in at the Wanderers, that passage of play will be New Zealand’s best chance of making this a close contest.

Sri Lanka made the surprise change of replacing veteran off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan with seamer Thilan Thushara, while New Zealand have brought in fast bowler James Franklin for batsman Gareth Hopkins.
Defeat for New Zealand would rule them out of semi-final contention completely while a loss for Sri Lanka would leave them reling on other results going their way to advance.
