JONES BEACH, NY (WABC) — Nothing screams Memorial Day weekend like the Blue Angels at the air show at Jones Beach.
The crowd of nearly 150,000 people was not disappointed, but they were a bit nervous by what they saw.
“One particular aircraft looked like it was going to fall, but I’m glad it’s not me up there, I’d have a head ache and a stomach ache,” said Sara Morrison, a beachgoer.
Some people did have a bit of sticker shock, the fee for parking at state beaches is now up to $10.It was the first increase in years.
“It’s a lot, especially with this economy. Keeping it at $8 would have been fine,” said Regina Demasi, a beachgoer.
For most people, it was their first time out on the sand that was worth the money.
It was also the first time in the water for some beachgoers, although they can’t say they really enjoyed it, because it was too cold!
Lt. Commander Any Tomlinson of the Blue Angels says it’s just a routine day on the job.
“I’m a WIZO, a weapons systems officer which is a back-seater in the F-18,” Tomlinson said.

Iran Developed Anti-Cruise Missile System: Iranian Military Commander

TEHRAN: A top Iranian military commander has said that the Islamic republic has developed an anti-cruise missile system, the state owned English language television station Press TV reported late on Sunday.
“Despite thirty years of military sanctions by the enemy, the armed forces have taken appropriate steps toward self-sufficiency,” Brigadier General Ahmad Miqani, who heads Iranian army’s air defence office said.
“Today, we are able not only to identify stealth cruise missiles, but also to destroy them,” he added, without elaborating.
Miqani said Iran was also improving its “existing defence system, constructing tens of anti-aircraft artillery pieces… and active and passive radars.”
In May, Iran said it had launched a production line to manufacture cannons for warships which can be used against cruise missiles.
Iran has boasted in the past of developing new weapons systems only for its claims to be met with scepticism by Western defence analysts.
Top military commanders have often said that Iran has developed missiles which can reach any corner of arch-foe Israel.
Ties between Iran and Israel have deteriorated since the first term of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who said the Jewish state is doomed to be “wiped off the map.”
