First PIA flight carrying Hajis lands in Karachi

KARACHI: The first Hajj flight of Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) has arrived in Karachi, while private operators have already started to reach Karachi and Lahore.
The private scheme’s Hajjis continue to return back to Pakistan as Saudi Airlines one flight, carrying more than 300 Hajjis, reached at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore while through three other different flights more than 600 Hajjis reached Karachi today.
The Hajjis arrived in Lahore told media that majority of the Hajjis, who went through the government’s scheme, faced great difficulties in Saudi Arabia.
Under the government scheme, PIA’s first Hajj flight will bring 228 Hajjis and a second flight will reach in Karachi at 10.00pm today.

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is confident that his government will complete its constitutional term and will also emerge the winner in the next general election.
Addressing a gathering of the party’s parliamentary leaders here on Saturday, he said that PPP will not deviate from its reconciliatory policy with PML-N, despite political challenges.
“We are keeping our promise on the charter of democracy and will continue to do so in the future also,” he said.
PPP, he said, ended politics of vendetta, due to which there is no political prisoner in the country.
The meeting also reviewed the overall performance of the government over the last two and half years.

Not afraid of jail’s mosquitoes: President Zardari

BENAZIRABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari said that he is not afraid of jail’s mosquitoes, adding that army generals did bad with the country and the country could not afford such happenings in future.
He said this while addressing the public gathering after inaugurating development projects in his home town on Monday.
President Zardari was of the view that his party, Pakistan People’s Party, tolerated loss whenever dictators interfere in the political affairs of the country.
He said that anti-government forces are looking at such chances, adding that political actors are coming forward but the government will complete its tenure.
“There had no justice with PPP in past even not fair and transparent elections held but the people of Pakistan had always supported the party.” SAMAA
CJ constitutes full court to resolve judges issue

ISLAMABAD: The chief justices of the four high courts have written separate letters to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry seeking his advice about the shortage of judges.
The Chief Justice has taken notice of the matter, and organized an urgent hearing on Monday before a 17-judge full court.
“BHC Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif have written separate letters to the Chief Justice, seeking advice about difficulties being faced by them in disposing off cases in the wake of shortage of judges.
The chief justices of the Sindh High Court and Peshawar High Court have also made similar requests to the Chief Justice.

Clinton announces major aid projects for Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State Clinton on Monday announced a raft of major aid projects focused on water and energy for Pakistan.
“We will complete two hydroelectric dam projects…. We’re also helping Pakistan develop alternative energy sources, like wind and solar power…,” said Clinton ahead of talks with Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad.
The projects are part of a five-year 7.5-billion-dollar funding approved by the US Congress last year and include water and health care projects, as well as help for the agriculture and private sectors.
The aid is a key part of the effort by the US administration to engage more fully with Pakistan, which has long seen Washington as interested only in securing its military cooperation in the fight against terror networks.
