Quetta: one killed in grenade attack

QUETTA: At least one man was killed and another injured in a hand grenade attack in Quetta on Sunday night, TrendPK reported.

According to details, the incident took place in Keli Aalmo area where unidentified miscreants hurled hand grenade at labourers working on a well, killing one man and injuring another.

The labourer killed in the attack was identified as Saheeb and was hailing from Sadiqabad, Punjab while the wounded was admitted to hospital.

Meanwhile, police said that the attack took place as labourers were fast asleep in a room when unidentified outlaws threw a hand grenade at them. TrendPK

Death toll in Iraq suicide bombings rises to 17

BAGHDAD: Two suicide car bombers targeting a government compound in the Iraqi town of Ramadi killed at least 17 people and wounded 47 on Monday, a police official said.

“The death toll has risen to 17, most of them police officers, and 47 people have been wounded,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity. He said most of the wounded were in serious condition.

He said rescue operations were continuing.

Ramadi is 100 km (60 miles) west of Baghdad. AGENCIES

Swabi: 2 cops killed, 6 hurt in Police Lines suicide attack

Two police personnel got killed while six others injured in a suicide attack at Police Lines in Swabi, Dunya News reported Monday.
According to DIG Mardan, the attack was a suicidal attack; the attackers were trying to barge into Police Lines, when he was intercepted by a police positioned there.
At least six cops including an inspector are injured in the attack, the police official said.
Both the attackers also got killed in the exchange of fire between the police and unidentified miscreants that ensued after grenade attack.
The police put security cordon off the area while the wounded have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

Sources told a vehicle was attacked in Data Khel where three terrorists were killed on the spot while two missiles were fired on a suspected house situated in Mir Ali. Four terrorists were killed and one other wounded, sources added. SAMAA

Troops kill 15 militants in Orakzai Agecny

ORAKZAI AGENCY: Security forces backed by helicopter gunships pounded militant hideouts in different parts of Upper Orakzai Agency, killing 15 terrorists.

According to sources, helicopter gunships targeted suspected militant positions in Khadizai, Sekaram and Merandi areas.

At least 15 militants were killed and 10 other wounded in the bombing.

In addition three militant hideouts were also destroyed in the shelling. SAMAA

Flood water submerges KN Shah, evacuation ordered

KARACHI: Ongoing flood devastations in Sindh province is now sweeping Khairpur Nathan Shah as fast roaring deluges headed for the area the town is being evacuated.

Meanwhile, flood tides have inundated Jati city of Thatta district. According to member provincial assembly Imran Laghari, emergency has been declared in Khairpur Nathan Shah tehsil of Dadu district owing to flood anticipation, asking people to evacuate houses in the earliest.

Meanwhile, raging flood torrents, unleashed from two breaches in MS protective embankment, have entered Jati city of Thatta District after wreaking havoc in Sujawal.

Suicide attack at Quetta rally kills 60

QUETTA: A suicide bomber killed at least 60 people at a Youm-al-Quds rally in the latest sectarian violence to hit Pakistan as the country struggles with the aftermath of massive floods.

The bomber was among the 450-strong crowd marching through the southwestern city of Quetta on Friday and blew himself up as the procession reached the main square.

Chaotic scenes followed, with an angry mob starting fires and shooting into the air while others fled or lay on the ground to avoid the gunfire.

“According to the reports collected from hospitals, 60 people have been killed and scores have been injured,” Sardar Khan, chief of Quetta’s police control room, told AFP by telephone.

US soldiers, six Afghan police killed in attacks

KABUL: Two US soldiers and six Afghan policemen were killed Monday in a string of Taliban-style bomb attacks in volatile southern Afghanistan on the eve of a major international conference, officials said.

The US soldiers operating under NATO”s International Security Assistance Force were killed in separate bomb attacks, ISAF said. It did not give details of the attacks.

The deaths bring to 380 the number of foreign soldiers to die in the Afghan war so far this year, according to a tally.

Six Afghan police officers were killed and four wounded when another roadside bomb ripped through their vehicle in the Khakraiz district of Kandahar province, the Taliban”s southern heartland, an official said. The officers had been on patrol, said Abdul Qayoum, the district governor.

Taliban spokesman Yousuf Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the attack in a telephone call from an undisclosed location.

Several injured in Sargodha Imam Bargah blast

SARGODHA: Several people were injured in a blast that ripped through an Imam Bargah here in Sargodha block 19, Geo News reported on Sunday.

Rescue and relief activities have been kick-started at the site of the incident while police have cordoned off the area.

The blast occurred when preparations were being made for Namaz-e-Maghribain.

SARGODHA: One person was killed and 18 others injured in a blast that ripped through an Imam Bargah here in Sargodha block 19, Geo News reported on Sunday.

The injured, some of them severely, have been shifted to District Hospital Sargodha and announcements are being made to donate blood for the wounded. Emergency has been declared in city hospitals.

Rescue and relief activities have been kick-started at the site of the incident while heavy contingent of police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

The blast occurred when preparations were being made for Namaz-e-Maghribain in the Imam Bargah located in a bustling market place.

Normally strict security is maintained at the Imam Bargah. But for reasons not known extraordinary security seemed not to have been put in place today.
