Wasan condemns lawyers’ killing

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan has condemned the killing of three lawyers in the city, TrendPK reported on Wednesday.

The minister said that it was a very sorrowful incident.

While talking with media, Wasan said that he has demanded immediate report of the incident from IG and CCPO.

Wasan said that the target killing incidents would be ended soon.

Earlier, three lawyers were shot dead by armed assailants at Pakistan Chowk area of the city.

The slain lawyers are identified as Shakeel Jafferi, Kafeel Jafferi and Badar Munir. TrendPK

Lakki Marwat: 4 killed, 22 injured in suicide attack on police station

LAKKI MARWAT: At least four persons have been reported killed and 22 injured in a suicide attack on a police station in Lakki Marwat today, TrendPK reported on Thursday.

According to initial reports, the terrorists smashed an explosive-laden vehicle into a police station in Peezo area of Lucky Marwat this day, leaving 4 persons dead and 22 injured.

Many neighboring buildings and shops were also damaged severely along with the police station in the powerful blast.

The local people and authorities rushed to the blast site and moved the dead bodies and injured to hospital while heavy contingents of the police reached on the scene and cordoned off the area.

According to government sources, after deadly blast the authorities imposed curfew in Tank this day. TrendPK

Monsoon rain cools Peshawar, Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Monsoon rains continue to lash widespread areas of Pakistan, TrendPK reports.

Showers turned the weather pleasant in the capital city of Islamabad, brining smiles on faces of citizens.

In Peshawar, two days of rains brought the temperature down to pleasing level.

The Met office has forecast more rains in interior Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Balochistan for the next 24 hours. TrendPK

Aman Committee’s new leaders have no criminal past: Mirza

ISLAMABAD: Sindh’s Senior Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza Tuesday said the people who took charge of People’s Aman Committee following the death of Rehman Dacoit, had no criminal record whatsoever.

Talking to media on arriving in the federal capital, firebrand Mirza stressed there was no point in beating the drum of Peace Committee, stressing actual reasons of restiveness in the metropolis be made public.

Defending Aman Committee, Zulfiqar Mirza remarked People’s Aman Committee had no existence now, as its leaders had announced to abolish the organization after it was banned.

ANP backs nationalists, PPP vows counter-strike on 13th

The strike has been called for restoration of local government system in Sindh.

Addressing a news conference at the Mardan House, he said that every conspiracy against Sindh will be foiled.

The ANP leader also appealed to the transporters and businessmen to support the strike and not carry out their routine activities.

He said that the role of Sindh nationalists regarding provincial autonomy cannot be forgotten.

Differences between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government and Sindh nationalist parties are increasing over restoration of the local bodies’ system.

According to details, the Sindh government has decided to reply strongly to the nationalists who are opposing the Local Government (LG) system.

The government has also decided to stage protests against the nationalists.

Meanwhile, PPP leader Zulfiqar Mirza bitterly criticised the Sindh nationalist leaders, saying they are opportunists.

Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) Chief Pir Pagara also said he would play a role to bridge the divide between rural and urban Sindh.

Backing the viewpoint of nationalists, Pir Pagara said his ancestors rendered sacrifices.

Zulfiqar Mirzas vacation end on July 4: Sharjeel

Talking to newsmen in Hyderabad press club, Sharjeel Memon said that Dr Zulfiqar Mirza had applied for one-month extension in his vacation on June 4 which would end on July 4.

He said that Rangers were deployed to defend Karachi and there would be no use of keeping them away.

He said people question that suo moto notice was taken and DG Rangers and DIG Karachi were removed after the incident of Sarfraz but neither suo moto notice was taken nor a single SP was suspended in Punjab when a policeman murdered former Punjab Governor.

He said Nawaz Sharif was responsible for crisis as he kept on delaying the Thar-Coal project.

Sharjeel said that statements of ‘liable to be murdered’ were made for Salman Taseer and now same statements were being made for Babar Awan.

He concluded that local bodies’ elections would be held after betterment in law and order situation.

Dr. Zulfiqar’s 30-day leaves notified

KARACHI: A notification form Sindh government has been issued which stated that recently axed Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza is going on 30-day leaves for medical treatment to be received in United States, TrendPK reported Thursday.

However, the government has not issued any notification that could confirm media reports which suggested that in absence of Dr. Zulfiqar, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah will be taking up his responsibilities as Sindh Home Minister. TrendPK

Still firm on my statement regarding MQM: Zulfiqar Mirza

Karachi pillion riding again under threat as banning under consideration

KARACHI: Pillion riding in the city is once again under threat as Sindh Government is considering banning it in few days from the start of Muharram.

Shafuddin Memon, an adviser to the Sindh Home Minister, has confirmed the pillion riding ban information; the faces of transporters and policemen have started to glow after hearing this news.

Earlier in December 2008, motor cycle pillion riding ban was imposed in Karachi. After two years, on October 16, Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza announced the removal of the ban but just after two days of break it was again resumed.

Finally, after a long and constant ban of 22 months and 23 days, pillion riding ban was removed on November 23. Now just after one week of relief a new pillion riding ban has been planned by the authorities.

No CCTV cameras installed: DIG West

KARACHI: DIG West Sultan Khwaja has said that there are no closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the West Zone of Karachi yet.



Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza had claimed to have installed CCTV cameras in different parts of city to ensure foolproof security in sensitive areas and processions during Muharram-ul-Haram. But DIG West has negated his statement, saying that there are no CCTV cameras installed in the area. He further said that the organizers of processions are told to install cameras by themselves.
