KABUL: Taliban Call for Afghans to Boycott Runoff Poll, Taliban on Saturday called for a boycott of the forthcoming implementation of fraud-off in Afghanistan the U.S. presidential elections contaminated as a principle and UN envoys expected fewer problems with the second round.
While Western military commanders insist they can ensure on 7 November survey was conducted in a calm, warning the Taliban threaten to deflate more participation, which was less than 40 percent of the first time.
“The Islamic Emirate (of Afghanistan), once again informed everyone that no one should participate in this process and America should boycott the process,” said a statement emailed to the sources of the Taliban.
“The mujahedeen are fully prepared to defeat this process,” he said, adding: “Anyone who participates and gets hurt will be responsible for their own losses.”
The runoff pits former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah, against the incumbent, Hamid Karzai, who took power in late 2001 after the Taliban were toppled by US-led forces.
Eight years later, the Islamists are waging an increasingly virulent insurgency, especially in its strongholds in the south, where attacks and threats helped to limit participation in some provinces such as Kandahar to ten percent or less.
Nearly 200 incidents of violence over the first vote was attributed to the Taliban, including amputations of fingers marked with purple ink, as proof of voting, and attacks with rockets and grenades at polling stations.
