The nominees for the 2010 Tony Awards have been announced, with many stars typically seen on the big screen competing for American live theater’s highest honors.
The “Best Actor in a Play” category is particularly loaded with big names:
Jude Law (Hamlet), Alfred Molina (Red), Liev Schreiber (A View From The Bridge), Christopher Walken (A Behanding in Spokane), and Denzel Washington (Fences) will go compete for the statue.
Viola Davis (Fences) and Laura Linney (Time Stands Still) are known for Oscar nominations, but this year will also vie for the “Best Actress in a Play” Tony.
Meanwhile, television stars Kelsey Grammer (La Cage Aux Folles) and Sean Hayes (Promises Promises) are among the “Lead Actor in a Musical” nominees, while Catherine Zeta-Jones (A Little Night Music) is up for “Best Actress in a Musical.”
Even rock stars got into the act, with Green Day’s “American Idiot” nominated for “Best Musical.”
Among the big names not nominated: Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig (A Steady Rain) and Nathan Lane (The Addams Family).
