Tsunami alert after Samoa quake in Japan,
TOKYO: Japan’s meteorological agency on Wednesday issued a tsunami alert after a massive quake struck off Samoa, warning waves of up to 50 centimetres (20 inches) would reach Pacific shores.
The first waves would hit the Ogasawara island chain, 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) south of Tokyo, at around 11:00 am (0200 GMT), the agency said.
Seismic waves would reach the shores of Japan’s main island around midday (0300 GMT), it said.![]()
