U.S. aid package Kerry-Lugar bill will not hurt Pakistan’s sovereignty, Pakistan’s Foreign Minster Shah Mehmood Qureshi says he will return to his country satisfied that a multibillion-dollar U.S. aid package ( Kerry-Lugar ) will not hurt Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi made a rushed visit to Washington this week after anger erupted in Pakistan that the aid bill was an attempt to micromanage Pakistan’s military and civilian government.
Speaking to reporters at a joint news conference Wednesday after meeting with Qureshi, Democratic Sen. John Kerry said that a statement attempting to clarify points in the bill will be entered into the congressional record. Kerry says the bill is a sign of friendship with Pakistan, not an impingement on its sovereignty.![]()
U.S. lawmakers did not change the bill. It has already been approved by Congress and awaits President Barack Obama’s signature into law.
